2023 Board Openings!

The Company OnStage (COS) serves the community by offering professional quality performances of contemporary and classic theater for children and adults in an intimate setting at affordable prices. COS provides the opportunity for everyone in the community to participate in theater by attending performances, taking classes, or volunteering for all phases of production.

We are in an exciting phase of transformation as we seek committed, diverse, and experienced volunteer Board members to guide our organization and support its growth. Board members will work collaboratively to shape policies and strategy for COS’s future and provide direction and counsel to realize the ongoing mission of the theatre.

Who Are We?

It all started in 1977 when Joyce Randall McNally, a former Alley Theatre Associate Director, and Hank McNally, her husband, began offering acting classes for children and adults in the Westbury area of Southwest Houston. Later, a small space in Westbury Square was rented, and in spring 1978, Company OnStage presented its first season of shows. In 1986, COS was organized as a Texas Non-Profit Corporation, and a Board of Directors was formed. Since then, the theatre has remained a fixture of the Westbury area throughout several moves and a substantial rebuild after damage from Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

We operate solely through the efforts of volunteers under the guidance of its Board of Directors. The theatre is funded by ticket sales, season ticket purchases, donations from corporations, gifts from private individuals, and through special fundraising events. COS is currently operating without a permanent location, while actively working on plans to return to a new home in Southwest Houston soon. During this transitional period, we remain dedicated to keeping live theater accessible and affordable.

What’s Our Why?

We believe that art is a central component of our culture and community, and we are passionate in providing a place where our community can experience live theatre and can find lifelong enrichment and appreciation for the performing arts. Our purpose is:

  • To provide the community with quality theatrical productions at an affordable price.
  • To encourage participation in theater by the community.
  • To increase awareness and appreciation of the theatrical arts.
  • To provide citizens of all ages and backgrounds with an opportunity to develop theatrical talents by participation in acting and other technical aspects of theater.

Who Are We Looking For?

While our volunteers are the heart of the Company Onstage, the Board of Directors are the guiding hands that support our mission and purpose. They possess a passion for art and live performances and share their expertise, influence, knowledge, and resources securing a strong future for the organization. Board members come from a diverse range of personal and professional backgrounds, and work to support the administrative, fundraising, financial, and strategic functions of the organization as stewards of the Company Onstage.

We are looking to add new vision, experience, and skillsets to our Board. Our ideal Board Member is an exemplar of most or all of the following:

  • You are passionate about the arts – each of us has been shaped and influenced by the arts at some point in our lives, and you want to see the community prosper through ready access to live theatrical performances.
  • You are experienced – you have skills or experience that can support a groundbreaking concept and bring resources to our doors. At this time, the Company Onstage is particularly seeking Board Members who have experience in the fields of Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, Fundraising, and Volunteer Management.
  • You are collaborative and enjoy working with fun people – you value working alongside a team, empowering others to express their point of view, and fostering an environment of healthy communication.
  • You are reliable – you arrive on time, meet deadlines, and follow through on your commitments. You demonstrate responsibility and accountability in decision-making, especially in team settings, celebrating when things have gone well and assisting when there are struggles.
  • You are forward-thinking – you scan the environment to anticipate the future needs and provide solutions to challenges.
  • You like making connections: You are committed to being an ambassador for the Company Onstage in your community, and helping us meet new audiences, professional partners, participants, and supporters.
  • You are open – you bring your authentic self to your work, and contribute to a positive, honest, and safe environment where people can connect and create.

What Is The Time Commitment?

  • Board members volunteer for a 3 year term and may serve consecutive terms.
  • The full Board meets monthly depending on priorities, and committees meet regularly to work on various projects.
  • Each Board member is required to serve on at least one committee, and we will work with you to find the committee that you are most passionate about.
  • Board members spend an average of approximately 5 hours a month doing board work: attending regular meetings, participating in committee work, and being an ambassador in your community.
