Before performances began for “A Tale of Two Santas”, we checked in with the Director, Lauren Hainley, to ask her about the show.
Question 1: Why did you want to direct this show?
Company Onstage has always been there for me when I needed it.
I saw Princess and the Pea at the Westbury Square location with my parents more than 20 years ago. I met my husband at Company Onstage ten years ago. I introduced my nephews to the magic of theater here. When Company Onstage needs help, I try to give back in some small way to the organization that has always been there for me. So, when I learned they needed a director for the first show in their new space, I knew it would be a great moment to work with my family before the next big transition in my life. As I will be nine months pregnant with my first child by the time the show closes.
Question 2: How would you describe your vision for this production?
I wanted a show that celebrates the winter holidays of all faiths while also creating some Controlled Christmas Chaos. It was important to me that every child who came to see the show would see themselves in the magic of the season.
Question 3: How has the rehearsal process been for this show? What has been exciting? What has been challenging?
We had some trouble at first finding the right cast, and once we had the cast we had many rehearsal conflicts, so the cast wasn’t able to all work together until the end of the process. However, since they came together it has been enchanting.
Question 4: What has been your favorite moment so far?
The relationship that is developed between Max and Santa has been very fun to watch. These two actors are amazing people but also have such great chemistry.
Question 5: What should the audience be excited about seeing or experiencing at your show?
Just seeing the magic of Santa and his elves on stage! The cast has a lot of fun and it is intoxicating.
