The Company OnStage is excited to announce that we are hosting auditions for Empowered: How One Girl Scout Nearly Destroyed the World’s Economy by Don Zolidis and Trouble in Mind by Alice Childress.
Auditions will take place on Sunday, January 10th and Monday, January 11th, 2027, beginning at 7pm at 5720 Bellaire Blvd, Suite G, Houston, TX 77081. We ask that participants arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and introduce yourself to the stage managers and directors. If you have a headshot and resume, please bring them (not required). There are no audition appointments, and actors are not required to present prepared monologues. The evening will cover the auditions for both shows, beginning with the Young Audiences Production. During each show’s audition, all actors will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a group setting with the director selecting sides and combinations of participants to read together or independently. Please be prepared to move and make bold choices!

SYNOPSIS
Amaryllis is determined to win her Girl Scout troop’s cookie-selling contest, but she’ll need more than charm to win first prize (a unicorn!) and avoid last place (which means getting kicked out of the troop!). So, when sales drop, she naturally turns to the financial sector for advice. Soon she’s faking a terminal illness, franchising her methods, and contracting with a payday lender to offer 30-year loans for cookies.

SYNOPSIS
A talented and experienced Black actress has been cast in Chaos in Belleville, an anti-lynching play set to open on Broadway. She’s paid her dues throughout the years, playing stereotypical supporting roles in second-rate shows, and is ready for her star turn. Chaos in Belleville, written by a white playwright, might not be quite as enlightened a piece as she’s been hoping for — but that doesn’t mean it won’t sell out. And selling out is the question at the heart of Alice Childress’s comedy-drama. A cast of multigenerational Black actors rehearse under the purview of a white director and stage manager, and as the rehearsal process unfolds, theatre conventions and racial politics collide, resulting in a surprisingly funny yet deeply piercing look at the entertainment industry.
AUDITIONS FOR THIS PRODUCTION WILL CONSIST OF COLD READINGS FROM THE SCRIPT.
