AUDITIONS – “The Rainbow Fish” and “The Clean House”

November 15 - November 16

The Company OnStage is excited to announce that we are hosting auditions for The Rainbow Fish adapted by Austin Zumbro and The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl.

Auditions will take place on Sunday, November 15th, and Monday, November 16th, 2026, beginning at 7pm at 5720 Bellaire Blvd, Suite G, Houston, TX 77081. We ask that participants arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and introduce yourself to the stage managers and directors. If you have a headshot and resume, please bring them (not required). There are no audition appointments, and actors will not need prepared monologues. The evening will cover the auditions for both shows, beginning with the Young Audiences Production. During each show’s audition, all actors will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a group setting with the director selecting sides and combinations of participants to read together or independently. Please be prepared to move and make bold choices!

Unhappy that no one adores him anymore, the Rainbow Fish seeks out the wise Octopus, who helps him learn that it’s far better to be admired for being kind than for being beautiful.

LIST OF CHARACTERS
Lane
Matilde
Virginia
Charles & Matilde’s father
Ana & Matilde’s mother

SYNOPSIS
The play takes place in what the author describes as “metaphysical Connecticut,” mostly in the home of a married couple who are both doctors. They have hired a housekeeper named Matilde, an aspiring comedian from Brazil who’s more interested in coming up with the perfect joke than inhouse-cleaning. Lane, the lady of the house, has an eccentric sister named Virginia who’s just nuts about house-cleaning. She and Matilde become fast friends, and Virginia takes over the cleaning while Matilde works on her jokes. Trouble comes when Lane’s husband Charles reveals that he has found his soul mate, or “bashert” in a cancer patient named Ana, on whom he has operated. This theatrical and wildly funny play is a whimsical and poignant look at class, comedy and the true nature of love.

AUDITIONS FOR THIS PRODUCTION WILL CONSIST OF COLD READINGS FROM THE SCRIPT.
