AUDITIONS – The Little Mermaid & The Stranger

January 7, 2024 - January 8, 2024

The Company OnStage is excited to announce that we are hosting auditions for “The Little Mermaid” and “The Stranger”.

 Auditions will take place on Sunday, January 7, and Monday, January 8, 2024 beginning @7pm at 5720 Bellaire Blvd, Suite G, Houston, TX 77081. We ask that participants arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and introduce yourself to the stage managers. If you have a headshot and resume, please bring it (not required). There are no audition appointments, and actors will not need prepared monologues. The evening will cover the auditions for both shows, beginning with “The Little Mermaid”. During each show’s audition, all actors will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a group setting with the director selecting sides and combinations of participants to read together or independently. Please be prepared to move and make bold choices!

The Little Mermaid premiered at the Dallas Children’s Theater on September 27, 1991.

First Rehearsal: Sunday, February 4, 2024

Rehearsal Schedule: Sunday and Tuesday Evenings Beginning @ 7pm.

(Additional Dates may be added, if needed)

Performance Dates: Saturdays, March 23, 30, April 6 and 13, 2024 @ 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 24, 2024, @ 2:00 p.m.

Strike Date: Sunday,  April 14, 2024

 CASTING REQUIREMENTS:

Total Number of Actors: 12

Age Range: Late Teens through 60+

Number of Men: 5

Number of Women: 7

All ethnicities are welcome.

Actors must be comfortable with physical comedy and singing.

There are no roles for anyone under 16 in this production.

 LIST OF CHARACTERS, AGE RANGES, AND GENDERS:

Pearl: Female, Late Teens-20s, The Little Mermaid.

Luna: Female, Late Teens-20s, Eldest Mermaid Sister – studious, serious, responsible (also plays one of Prince Stefan’s Maids)

Coral: Female. Late Teens-20s, 2nd Born Mermaid Sister – Fun loving and interested in Handsome Mermen

Anemone: Female, Late Teens-20s, 3rd born Mermaid Sister – emotional, excitable, and sensitive (also plays one of Prince Stefan’s Maids)

Sea King: Male, 40s-50s, Father of the mermaid sisters and son of Great Mother. Strong, Kind, and Wise. Wants happiness for his daughters.

Great Mother: Female, 60+, Grandmother of the mermaid sisters, Mother of the Sea King. Sympathetic, wise, warm and brave

Yorick: Male, 20s-50s, Lifelong valet of Prince Stefan – excitable and good-hearted

William: Male, Late Teens-20s, Sailor – Young, Strong, Agreeable (also plays Puffer and an eel)

Timothy:  Male, Late Teens-20s, Sailor – Young, Strong, Agreeable (also plays an eel)

Prince Stefan: Male, 20s-30s, Handsome, truthful, brave, and kind

Princess Marianna:  Female, Late Teens-20s, Young, pretty, and gentle. Hopes for happiness for everyone

Sea Witch: Female, 30s-50s, Selfish, vindictive, and volatile, and evil force with supernatural powers.

 SYNOPSIS:

In this adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale, based in the harmonious world of merpeople, the little mermaid Pearl dreams of the world above. Her sisters Luna and Coral, her father, Anemone the Sea King, and her grandmother, the Great Mother, warn her of dangers above. But Pearl, in love with the handsome prince whose life she saved, trades her voice to the Sea Witch to become human.  When the deal goes south,  Pearl’s only hope of a happy ending is the Great Mother…

 SYNOPSIS:

Enid rejects her fiancé for newcomer Gerald and moves to a remote country cottage with him – where a dark and terrible climax takes place.
