After the opening of “The True Stories of the So-Called Big Bad Wolves” by Richard Gremel, we checked in with the Director, Jennifer Brown, to ask her about the show.
Question 1: Why did you want to direct this show?
I always LOVE a good villain story! I have always felt that people are shaped by their experiences, and everyone else’s perspective on situations can be different. This show is a great way illustration that things are not always as they appear.
Question 2: How would you describe your vision for this production?
As soon as I read this script, it reminded me of cartoons from the 1980s and 1990s. This show immediately took me back to when I was a child eating cereal in front of the TV on Saturday mornings. I wanted to inspire that lighthearted, joyful, and nostalgic feeling in our audiences.
Question 3: How has the rehearsal process been for this show? What has been exciting? What has been challenging?
The rehearsal process has been such a blast, and we have had so much fun bringing this show to life. Since this script is on the shorter side, it was both a great opportunity and a challenge to help fill out the story. Our actors really took the opportunity to bring these iconic characters to life!
Question 4: What has been your favorite moment so far?
The best moment throughout this process has been watching the audience reactions during performances. I love watching audience members of all ages enjoy the show and completely engage in the experience.
Question 5: What should the audience be excited about seeing or experiencing at your show?
This is a great opportunity for both adults and children to relax, laugh and just have an enjoyable afternoon. Come watch real-life cartoons with us!
Bonus Question: Who in the show is most like their character? Who’s the least?
The actor most like their character would be our Stage Manager, Emily, who makes a surprise guest appearance. Come see the show to find out why.
