After the opening of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” by Renee Calarco, we checked in with the Director, Mackenzie Farias, to ask her about the show.
Question 1: Why did you want to direct this show?
Question 2: How would you describe your vision for this production?
My vision for this project was very inspired on how the children of a new generation will always put a spin on what is considered “Traditional”. How children want to love and respect how things are done, but sometimes, you just have to do things your own way. In a short sentence, make “it” make sense.
Question 3: How has the rehearsal process been for this show? What has been exciting? What has been challenging?
The rehearsal process has definitely been fun and chaos-filled but the cast and crew has definitely put their heart and soul into this production to make it fun and family filled! They are always blowing my mind with how creative they can be and how much life they bring to this story.
Question 4: What has been your favorite moment so far?
My favorite moment of this whole process has been how willing the actors are to completely throw themselves into whatever crazy idea I have concocted.
Question 5: What should the audience be excited about seeing or experiencing at your show?
The audience should be excited to experience everything, especially with their little ones! It’s a fun filled chaos that is wrapped up in tinsel and ribbons, ready to be served in a briefcase by our Calling Birds
Bonus: Who in the show is most like their character? Who’s the least?
The person who is most like their character in the show would definitely have to be Khameere Guinn, who plays as Ricky. Khameere’s laid back nature mixed so well with Ricky’s personality, that they are like two peas in a pod. The person who is least like their character would have to be Jennifer Lee as Grammy. Jennifer is so sweet and funny and seeing her become the stern no-nonsense Grammy is a treat to watch every time.
